Gin is a hero!

Originally, I’d planned to write this comic as a novel. When you compare my authorial skills to my graphic artistry, there’s really no contest; I’m a far better writer than an artist. As I wrote the first draft, however, I felt out of my genre, even hypocritical. I don’t read books anymore. Why should I write one? Besides, writing a novel is long and boring process, completely deficit of attention feedback until after you have the damn thing done. I mean, there are serial novels and all, but that sounds suspiciously like something I would completely forget about after a couple weeks. Or days. Or minutes.

So, frustrated with writer’s block and the overwhelming feeling of impending doom, I got it in my head to try to get a comic formally published. I know my art is rather mediocre (though I make a solemn promise to you here and now that I will restrain myself from actually bitching about it), but I know intellectually that structure, writing, and technique is more important than purty drawin’. However, I abandoned this approach quickly as well; the comic industry is a frightening place, and “toning” is a giant pain in the ass. Seriously.

Once all hopes of formal publishing went down the drain, it was a pretty easy leap to, “I should draw a new webcomic. “And you know, for the first time ever, I feel like I’m doing something online not because it is lazy, but because it’s genuinely the best media to accomplish my goals. Maybe it’s a little harsh, but I think a lot of people do webcomics as webcomics because they are lazy. I was once one of these people! I used to do a couple of comics called Donut Girls and Bishonen Adventures, and they were quite mediocre, and I loved them with every fiber of my being. I ran those comics on and off for a good five years, and then I eventually gave up on them. I never thought I’d draw another webcomic, but then I never thought I’d go back to college, either…

Well! No need to get all schmoopy about it! I ceremonially deleted it and all. Pressing that Delete key was sweet, sweet as revenge or Cadbury Creme eggs~

Don’t mind me, guys.

I’m just startin’ a new webcomic and I’m hella excited.
